Missing the old days...

Yesterday, me and my wave-mates had a great time together at Chic-boy, located at BF Homes Paranaque. I don’t know what others would say because I didn’t have a chance to ask them, but for me, the place is just average, as well as the food, but they have this so-called “unli-rice” (short for unlimited RICE) which catches the attention of customers particularly the boys who love to eat more than just 1 cup of rice in a meal without paying extra. The price is very affordable and staffs are friendly so it is highly recommend especially if the plan is “KKB” (Kanya-kanyang Bayad). Hehehe.

It was just a simple gathering that lasted for about 2 hours, or 3 hours including the travel back and forth. We ate together, chatted together,  and laughed together while slowly filling up our stomach with  the yummy Cebu Lechon Liempo, Cebu Lechon Manok, Inihaw na Liempo, unlimited rice and unlimited iced tea! Imagine, one of the wave-mates even had 6 cups of rice!

It’s really good to be out with friends sometimes, knowing their whereabouts, remembering the old days, and talking about each other just like we haven’t seen each other for quite a long time. Actually, we sometimes see each other in the office, exchange “hi and hello” but of course, we can’t talk that long except those who are together in a team. I really missed these people, their sense of humors, their jokes and stories. The bonding was such a relief after sitting on our stations, taking calls and being in front of the computer talking to strangers for a week or so. The stories that our friends shared to each other were enough to remove the stress we had even just for that moment. It’s sad that our trainers and some of our classmates during our product training weren’t able to make it that day but like they said, there would always be next time. I just hope that more of us can join the next gathering. No matter where it would be or what we would do, the most important is the presence of all of us. Thank you everyone! Because of you, I just had another piece to add to my diary ;)

Sharing tips on how to become a Millionaire

I just finished listening to the recorded phone interview of Susan Sly, a self-made millionaire as she speaks to LGN Members about how to "Think Like a Millionaire". Her journey as self-made millionaire is trully very inspiring. I hope in this blog, by sharing what she said, I serve as an instrument to inspire readers to dream big like her.

Here are the highlights of the things I learned from Susan:

1. You have to know what you want and why (vizualization is important -- when you can connect emotionally to what it is you really really want, you're much more likely to get it)

*right people are infront of you every single day. Get excited about standing at least 5 minutes every single day and vizualize what your life is gonna be like. Believe that your dreams will be true.
*create your own vision board or dream board. put your dreams and after you get it, replace it with something else. don't be the person who has the knowledge but doesn't apply it to get the wisdom.

2. Create a clearance. You have to get clearing to produce. Clear your desk. You may write: multiple digits earner and believe that you are.

3. Interview millionaires. Don't be afraid that you will get rejected because millionaires love to share to others their journeys. You can ask:
*how do you multitask?
*how do you know that you are going to be a millionaire?
*what books are you reading? who's your mentor?
*how do you produce, how do you set schedules, etc..

4. You need to fire negative people. Hang out with people who are pulling you up for success.

5. Work to your passion. Identify what's the thing you are passionate about and do it.

6. Ask. ask. ask.

7. Millionaires -- they go for it, they don't quit. Becoming a millionaire doesn't just happen overnight and expect that you'll encounter a lot of objections and rejections along your way, you just have to be determined in transforming your dreams to reality. You need to believe in yourself that you can do it!

and she added in the end just to add a little humor...

8. Millionaires are able to produce even with very little sleep ;)

which is true, isn't it? So Good luck and get ready to prosper. As what another Millionaire, Jefferey Combs said, " if you want to become a millionaire you need to manage the emotion that will get you there. You need to transform. Transform means letting go, reinventing yourself, changing your identity. Start aligning yourself to people who had the same vision."

So start by joining LGN now! I did.

Applying for Philippine Passport

Are you planning to apply for Philippine passport or planning to renew your passport? For those who applied for passport before 2010, I believe you can relate to my story. It was September 2009 when I first applied for a passport. I took a day off from work since application process was being held during normal business hours; prepared all the documents and went there at the old DFA office located near Cuneta Astrodome. I arrived around 8 o’clock in the morning and there were already thousands of applicants that time. Though lines were well-organized, I felt so uncomfortable for it took more than 3 hours before I can even get my papers verified. Take note that was just for step 1. People started to get annoyed and so was I. Another 3 hours for Step 2 until I finally reached Step 3 which was supposed to be the final step. Unfortunately, the officer didn’t accept the authenticated copy of my birth certificate. Her reason was that the person who authenticated it way back 2002 was no longer connected with NSO. I felt so pissed off considering that I waited for so long in the line, felt so hot, tired and hungry at the same time. I couldn’t eat as leaving the line will cause further delay. I was dismayed because I should have been informed about it during the first step (verification). Then the officer asked me to get a new copy of birth certificate and since I didn’t have any choice I went to NSO (Macapagal branch) and had it printed. The cost was Php140. I really wanted to finish it that day since I have to work the following day so I waited another hour for my birth certificate to be released and in a hurry to bring it back to DFA to complete the process since it was already 4PM and the office was about to close. Unfortunately, my name was misspelled, from Bernadette it appeared “Bernadeth” in SECPA (NSO Security Paper). I had been using the authenticated copy of my birth certificate ever since and didn’t have any problem with it until then. Then the NSO personnel asked me to go to main NSO to correct it under RA 9048 (Clerical Error). I was really frustrated as I was unable to complete my passport application that day plus it was not my mistake if the clerk mistyped my name in the original document. It took me months before I was able to correct my birth certificate as I had to submit the required documents in my hometown at San Juan, Batangas then brought them to NSO Main in Fairview. Processing fee was Php1000 but it had cost me more due to travelling and reprinting which could have been avoided if the clerk was careful. Well, they should be really careful because they knew how important and sensitive these documents are.

Anyway, to cut the story short, after more than a year, I decided to apply for a passport again. This time, the process is totally different. You will have to secure your appointment online at http://passport.com.ph/set-appointment. The problem though is that the appointment date is set around 2 months from the date of your online application. They will send the electronic form in your email address which you will need to confirm within 48 hours by clicking on the link provided in the email or else the appointment will be cancelled. In my case I had applied for an appointment online last January but schedule was set for March 11, 2011. Last week, I had a problem because I lost the email sent by DFA and I haven’t printed the e-form yet. I asked my husband to call DFA Passport hotline (737-1000) and alas! The representative sent the email again right away. Today is March 11, so this morning, I went to Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Office located at 2330 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City for my personal appearance. I took another day off from work, anticipating what could possibly happen as the last time it took me whole day before I could reach the final step. You know what I discovered? New changes are amazing! I can say they had improved so much compared to what I had witnessed 2 years ago. The building is fully air-conditioned, thus you reach the final step with no sweat. Also, there were so many staffs assisting the applicants to speed up the process. The thumb mark, photo and signature are already digitized. In an hour time, I was able to complete the process. I would like to commend our government for the great improvement. At last, my passport will be released next month! The only comment I have is that I noticed some staffs who were not friendly, I know they can do better than acting like robots ;) Btw, just an update:

Passport Fees

Regular Processing: Php 950.00 (25 working days)

Rush Processing: Php 1,200.00 (15 working days)

SM Mall of Asia Marching Band

Mall of Asia is indeed a great place to relax. Entertainment wise, this place is packed of so many places to go; from IMAX where people loved to watch 3d movies, to baywalk where couples enjoy the sea breeze and romantic view of the sunset, to concert ground where party people enjoy to rock with their favorite artists, to seaside where you can buy fresh good from the wet market and pay the “paluto charge” to enjoy a delicious meal with your friends and family and a whole lot more. Our office is in the Mall of Asia and having been working there for 3 years didn’t bore me at all. As a matter of fact, whenever there’s a chance, I bring my family there too. There are so many restaurants to choose from, and a hearty meal with cozy ambience is perfect to turn your tiring and stressful day to a more relaxed one. If you are fond of watching fireworks, just be there before 7PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and for sure, you will enjoy the breathtaking fireworks for free. Another thing to add to switch your dark mood to a light one is the marching band. The band members dance as they perform which adds to the fun. Below are some photos and video which my husband took during their performance. Be there before 6pm if you want to witness them live!

Class Prophecy (BEA Batch 2001-2002)

A Journey From Reality
written by: Bernadette Mabansag and Heide Rose Hernandez

After several hours of signing contracts, at last, the meeting was over. I decided to take a break and drink coffee at the Starbucks Cafe. Upon entering its front door, I saw someone whose face was so familiar. Yeah, I knew, she's M.C, my high school friend, the one who used to sell "mazapan" or what they called as "yema". As she came nearer, she said, "Welcome Ma'am... eehh.. Badette?!.. oh yeah it's you Tedab, what a surprise!" She screamed so loud that got the attention of the customers and the owner, Ms. Jessica Rosales, who was our Student Principal then.

After sharing pleasantries with M.C and Jessica, I realized that I should visit one of my best buddies whom I considered one of the most successful women I've ever known. When I arrived at her office, she didn't notice me. I saw her with a bunch of papers at her table. To get her attention, I made a loud scream, "Tog-sheng!" She was stunned and replied, "ala, ay kagaling naman!" and we laughed to our hearts desire.

"Are you not tired of doing that job? I've been calling you all day and the only answer I got from your secretary was  you're busy. Why don't you take a break? Let's go to California for some rest and peace of mind.." I asked of her. "Well, that's a good idea.. wait, I will just call my partner Sherrie Anne and tell her that I will be away for couple of weeks so she can take in charge."

After few days, I went to her house and picked her up. We arrived at the airport just in time. When we were at the departure area, I couldn't believe it, for I saw our high school PMT Captain Roiland Tobeo wearing a Naval suit. He was so in a hurry we did not catch up with him.

Heide and I were about to take our seats in the airplane when the flight stewardess voice echoed inside the room asking us to fasten our seatbelts. Her voice reminded me of one of our batchmates whom we teased lesbian or "tomboy". I was surprised when I saw her approaching us, she's Irma Sevilla, very feminine and charming with her costume.

Then a voice from the pilot cockpit reminded me of another high school friend, Hersan. I was right as he was indeed the pilot that time as he announced.. "This is your Pilot, Hersan Fetil, we are about to land at the L.A. airport.." I wanted so much to see him but I had to accompany Heide to her hotel so I decided to just meet with him some other time.

When we arrived at the hotel, I just took a quick shower and left Heide sleeping in bed. I went to a big restaurant, "ACINOM's Restaurant". When I entered the restaurant, I was surprised to see another classmate, Jonathan Ramos. I greeted him with a pleasant "hi!" and he confirmed to me that the owner of the restaurant was no other than Monica Madonna Tolentino. I wasn't able to see her because she was engaged in a meeting with her co-proprietors that moment.

I went back to the hotel and invited Heide to the entertainment hall. When the first show was about to begin, the master showman introduced the first batch of performers. I could not believe my eyes for they were no other than the ultimate and boneless dancers, "Boys in Motion", the dancers from our Alma Mater, the same group of dancers headed by Jun-jun Barlan. I thought I was just dreaming but the next performer astonished me, Jerleth de Chavez.

I left Heide at the entertainment hall as I needed to see a doctor. I felt so dizzy and was afraid that my blood pressure rose.

I thought surprises were over but when I arrived at the hospital, the first doctor I saw was also my classmate, Joel Yolola who was the resident doctor assigned that time. When he called his nurse, I saw another classmate coming to us, Mary Rose Magbujos.

After Dr.Yolola gave me the prescription I needed, I immediately went to the Pharmacy within the hospital building. The pharmacist who welcomed me was another fellow classmate, Ronna Joy Bagnes.

After drinking the medicine and taking a nap, I prepared myself to go to boutique as I needed to buy a formal dress. There will be a musical concert that night which will be performed by my old-time friend, Irish and with her husband Dominic. I saw their invitation at the hotel's lobby. But I was even more surprised to see Honeyleen Adan, the owner of the boutique with our high school classmates, Caren Dyan and Karen Salimo as co-owners, the 2 Ginas of 4-1.

When I went back to the hotel, I caught Heide watching a television show, the Body Builder show. She told me that she saw Romuel Aguba and Jonathan Aguila compete on that show. She also told me that the emcee of that show is her bestfriend Arlyn May Aclan who looks great with her slim body.

When the show was over and after proclaiming that Romuel won the title as "Mr. Body Builder 2012", I changed the TV Channel and what caught my attention was the Mr. and Ms. Earth  Competition. I was amazed upon hearing the names of the candidates from the Philippines. It was wonderful to see Gel and Marvin in the TV screen. Yes, Angelica Sayo and Marvin Greggy Aguila bagged the title Mr. and Ms. Earth 2012.

After watching the coronation, I looked for another interesting show and the show that made me stared on screen was the cooking show of Vanessa and Jaypril Reglos who were the two big names in our campus. Then I was even surprised when Deanna Rose Tolentino showed up in the show as the guest chef.

I was about to turn off the TV when news flashed. The newscaster who appeared on the screen was my old time best pal Jaypee Araño. His news was about the the greatest debate of 2012 which will soon be seen in CNN. His guests will be Ms. Maricar Gonzales and Ms. Connie Magbujos, "Q-Girls." I got so fascinated of what I was seeing on tv, it was a commercial for the upcoming fashion show of Donatella Versace and the gorgeous models who were on stage were Maria Gracia Trillanes, Sylvia Kristel Ejes, Aleah Contreras, Leizl Boongaling, Mary Ann Pasia, Joan Alcones, Vanessa Coronel, Ronalyn Enriquez, Nenette Mendoza and Michelle Perdiguerra followed by the hunks, Jose Bernabe Lavarias, Floyd Ilustrado, Rico Japlit, Leo Niño Cusi and Alvin de Mesa. How I wished I could still stay tuned on the tv show but it was already seven in the evening and I had to prepare for the concert of "Romeo and Juliet". Heide on the other hand, had to see the NBA Game of the LA Lakers where our high school batchmates, Amir Salvania, Fortunato Cueto, Gilbert Manalo, Ronnel Untal, Arjay Lacdao and Erwin Gagalac and my old-time favorite, our high school Senior  Euclid Virrey were members.

It was a fine Sunday morning the next day. I woke up and saw Heide still sleeping in bed. When she rose up, I eagerly asked her how the game was last night. "Really amazing!" she gasped. "You know what? Erwin Gagalac was awarded as MVP while Euclid and Amir played very well.. I was stunned when I saw the two guys.. they were as handsome as ever!" Heide said as if she was daydreaming.

We went to church that morning only to find out that the mass was over and a wedding ceremony is being held. We heard the priest said, "Now, I declared you as husband and wife.." When the newly weds walked down the aisle, we got a glance at their faces and to our great surprise, they were Emerson and Vanessa Caig, our high school sweethearts. American looking guy Clarck Andrew Alcantara was the couple's bestman and Lanie Triviño was the maid of honor. Heide asked me to accompany her as she approached the priest because she wanted to donate a painting of the blessed Virgin Mary painted by the famous Kurt Charles Felomino. When we saw the priest coming our way, we could not believe he was Ail Wilfred Lara whose cute dimples appeared as he smiled on us... "Father, ohhh, it's you!.."

"Hey Bernadette wake up! Hello, hello, are you with me?" Heide asked. Oh my! I found myself sitting at the computer lab where we were making some news articles for our school organ. I could not control laughing at my wondering thoughts. ^__^

Kalsada

Isang Sanaysay..

Trick or Treat?

Kids are very beautiful in nature. You can dress them whatever you want and they will still look cute and lovable. No wonder why even this Halloween season, you can’t resist pinching their cheeks as they dressed up with their creepiest costume. It is a common scene every year but still, you will feel delighted when kids knock your door and say “trick or treat” with smile.

As defined by Wikipedia, “Trick-or-treating is a customary practice for children on Halloween, seen in many countries. Children in costumes, either in large groups or accompanied by an adult, travel from house to house in order to ask for treats such as candy (or, in some cultures, money) with the question "Trick or treat?". The "trick" is a (usually idle) threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.”

Here in our community, my daughter participated in the trick or treat event, too. I let her joined the other kids, asking for some candies and putting them inside their pumpkin bags. As parents, we also participated in the said event by preparing loot bags of candies and chocolates and gave them to the kids who approached us. To be honest, we were also excited as me and my husband had never experienced joining in a trick or treat event when we were still kids. Both of us came from province and we don’t even remember if trick or treat was celebrated there. I believe that this event was known worldwide but here in the Philippines, it is only common in urban places like Manila. What I remembered was that during Halloween season our families had always been busy cleaning the tombs of our dead relatives. Some of my cousins do it too for a purpose. They do it to earn money as some people who don’t have time to do the cleaning themselves, are willing to pay others to do it for them. Cemetery becomes a busy place during All Saints day and All Souls Day. Candle and flower business are gaining more profit during this season. Many people take their off from work to visit their dead relatives and they couldn’t resist themselves for buying the most beautiful and most expensive candles and flowers as signs of respect to them. Some families even stay in the cemetery the whole night. For them, it is the best time to show how much they value their love ones who passed away. I hope that we don’t forget to pray for them so they can truly rest in peace. +++++
